Musical of Musicals – The Musical
Directed by Avigail Herman and Jane Miskovic, Musical of Musicals – The Musical is a five-part cabaret style musical which honours and spoofs the musical theatre form. Presenting the same storyline five different times, in five different styles, this Sydney production starred Elise McCann as ingenue June, Shaun Rennie as love interest Billy, Warwick Allsopp as the villain Jitter and Avigail Herman as the wise confidante Abby.
Honouring the styles of Rodgers & Hammerstein, Stephen Sondheim, Jerry Herman, Andrew Lloyd Webber and Kander & Ebb, the musical pokes fun but at its heart, provides a tribute to these masters of musical theatre. June, the ingénue, can’t pay the rent to landlord Jitter. June’s love interest, Billy, is always wiling but not necessarily able, while wise older confidante Abby mostly offers advice.
Elise starred in the original Sydney season from February – March 2009 after which she had to leave to begin on My Fair Lady for Opera Australia and subsequently was replaced by Belinda Wollaston.

“The space in which they work in is none to capacious and there is nowhere to hide. Everything they present is up for close scrutiny. ….. I have genuine admiration of (McCann’s) offerings.”
