Based on the 1993 hit film and from the creatives behind Matilda The Musical (on stage and film), Groundhog Day the Musical is a Tony nominated and Olivier Award-winning (Best New Musical, Best Actor) musical sensation which took the US and UK by storm in an enchanting comedy-musical of a man trapped inside one day on repeat. Phil Connors, a cynical Pittsburgh TV weatherman is sent to cover the annual Groundhog Day event in the small town of Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania. Caught in a time loop, he’s forced to relive the same day again and again… and again, sending him on a often hilarious and sometimes moving path to enlightenment and redemption.

Elise McCann stars opposite Olivier Award winner and Tony nominated actor Andy Karl, who will reprise his role as Phil Connors, the cynical TV weatherman with Elise playing the quick-witted and kind-hearted television producer Rita Hanson.

The Australian premiere opened in Melbourne in January 2024 direct from its record-breaking return season at London’s Old Vic.

With Music and Lyrics by Tim Minchin AM, direction by Matthew Warchus, together with the film’s original writer, Danny Rubin, have created this gloriously joyful and heart-warming musical. The production features Set and Costume by Rob Howell, Choreography by Lizzi Gee, Orchestration, Additional Music and Musical Supervision by Christopher Nightingale , Lighting by Hugh Vanstone, Sound by Simon Baker, Illusions by Paul Kieve.

The production received rave reviews in Melbourne and winner of both the Critics’ Choice Award and People’s Choice Award for Best Musical of 2024 in Time Out Melbourne Arts & Culture Awards. Elise was nominated for Best Performance in a Musical for her portrayal of Rita.
