Fiddler on the Roof
Elise’s professional debut began in the 2005 Australian production of Fiddler on the Roof in the role of Surcha, taking over in the role of Fruma Sarah for the 2006-2007 Tour alongside the legendary Topol – who starred in the 1971 film adaption.
Set in the Pale of Imperial Russia in 1905, Fiddler on the Roof centres on Tevye, the father of five daughters, and his attempts to maintain his family and Jewish religious traditions while outside influences encroach upon their lives. He must cope both with the strong-willed actions of his three older daughters, who wish to marry for love – each one’s choice of a husband moves further away from the customs of his faith.
The cast also included Judith Roberts (Golde), Maggie Kirkpatrick (Yente), Louise Kelly (Tzeitel), Laura Fitzpatrick (Hodel), Emily Green (Chaim), Tim Wright (Motel) and Shaun Rennie (Fyedka).
